Self-Hosted Relevance AI Alternative
Relevance AI is a no-code platform for building AI agents and multi-agent “AI workforces”, with templates for sales, marketing and operations work and more than 2,000 integrations. It runs as a multi-tenant cloud service with data regions in the US (N. Virginia), the EU (London) and Australia (Sydney), fixed at signup. Since September 2025 it has billed on two meters: Actions, one per tool run including failed runs, and Vendor Credits for model costs, passed through without markup or replaced by your own API keys.
Why enterprises look beyond Relevance AI
Agent builders like Relevance AI let a business team wire an LLM to a CRM and a spreadsheet in an afternoon. The second year looks different: the agents touch customer data, IT and compliance ask where each step runs, and finance asks why the bill moves with every tool call, retries included. Organisations that need agents on internal systems which never face the internet, or whose regulator wants the model, the data and the logs in one controlled place, move that work to a platform they host themselves.
No version you can host
Relevance AI’s security documentation describes a multi-tenant cloud, says single-tenant options are still in the works, and mentions no on-premises edition. Agents that must reach systems behind the firewall need a path from the vendor’s cloud into your network.
Every tool run is metered
Each tool run counts as an Action, failed runs included, and model usage is billed on a second meter. Busy agents, retries and long tool chains make the monthly cost hard to forecast.
Cloud models by default
Its documented default models are OpenAI’s GPT and Anthropic’s Claude, run in the cloud. Teams that must keep some data classes on local, open-weight models need a model layer they operate.
When Relevance AI is the right choice
An honest alternative page tells you when not to migrate. Stay with Relevance AI when:
- Your agents work mainly in SaaS tools such as CRMs, email and calendars, and a US, EU or Australian cloud region satisfies your data rules.
- Business users need to ship agents from templates quickly, and the integration library already covers the tools they use.
- Ready-made calling agents and outbound sales workflows are the priority, which is where Relevance AI is strongest.
Relevance AI → VDF AI, capability by capability
| Capability | Relevance AI | VDF AI (self-hosted) |
|---|---|---|
| Agent building | No-code builder, templates and multi-agent workforces | Agents created from chat or a form, versioned, and composed into multi-agent networks |
| Integrations | More than 2,000 listed integrations | Connectors for databases, Jira, Confluence, GitHub and more, plus custom REST APIs and MCP tools |
| Hosting | Multi-tenant cloud in a US, EU (London) or AU region | Your servers, a private cloud or an air-gapped network |
| Models | GPT and Claude by default; bring your own API keys | Local open-weight models through Ollama, vLLM or custom endpoints, plus approved cloud APIs |
| Billing | Actions per tool run plus Vendor Credits for models | Fixed annual Seat Bundles on-premises; the licence does not meter model tokens |
| Governance | SSO, RBAC and audit logs on the Enterprise plan | RBAC on every plan, per-role tool grants, human approval steps and an audit log per run |
How teams move off Relevance AI
Export the list of agents and tools in use with Action counts per agent; the busiest and most sensitive agents move first.
Register local models in VDF AI Router and connect the internal systems those agents need, granting each tool per role.
Rebuild each agent in VDF AI, carrying over its prompt and tool sequence, and add an approval step before anything is sent to a customer or written to a record.
Run old and new agents on the same inputs for a few weeks, compare the outputs, then retire the cloud versions.
Relevance AI alternative questions
Is there an open-source alternative to Relevance AI?
Open-source and source-available tools such as n8n, Flowise and Dify can be self-hosted and suit teams prepared to assemble and run the pieces themselves. VDF AI is a commercial platform installed on your servers with governance built in: role-based access, approval steps, audit records and routing across local and cloud models.
Can Relevance AI be self-hosted?
Not according to its own documentation as of October 2026. Relevance AI describes a multi-tenant cloud in three regions, gives Enterprise customers with fine-grained access controls a separate service and database, and says single-tenant options are in the works; it lists no on-premises edition.
How does Relevance AI pricing work?
Since September 2025 Relevance AI has billed Actions, one per tool run including failed runs, and Vendor Credits for model and tool costs, passed through without markup. Extra Actions cost $80 per 1,000, and the public pricing page currently shows an Enterprise plan sold through sales. VDF AI on-premises is sold as fixed annual Seat Bundles, so the number of tool runs never moves the licence fee.
Can VDF AI run sales and outreach agents?
For research and drafting, yes: agents can research accounts on the web, read Dynamics 365 records, draft emails and send them once a person approves. Other CRMs connect through custom REST APIs or MCP tools. Relevance AI’s ready-made outbound templates and calling agents are a genuine strength, and teams focused on external outreach may keep it for that.
