What is an example of GPAI Model?
A broadly capable language model offered through weights or an API can be a GPAI model. A bank that integrates it into a credit workflow is not relieved of deployer or provider duties for the resulting high-risk system.
How is GPAI Model different from related concepts?
GPAI model is the EU AI Act term. Foundation model is a broader technical term. They overlap in practice, but legal classification must follow the regulation’s definitions and guidance.
What should enterprises evaluate for GPAI Model?
- Confirm the model provider’s documentation, acceptable-use terms, training summary, evaluation evidence, and downstream information.
- Determine whether systemic-risk obligations apply and how provider changes or model updates will be communicated.
- Maintain your own system-level risk, testing, monitoring, and human-oversight controls.
