OneDrive Integration

What it does

  • Connect your OneDrive for Business so VDF can access and analyze your files for AI search, summaries, and context-aware answers. VDF can browse your OneDrive files and help you find relevant documents during conversations.

Adding the App

  1. In VDF, go to Integrations → Microsoft → OneDrive → Connect.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account and grant access to VDF.
  3. You'll be redirected back to VDF. Confirm the connection shows "Connected".
  4. Optional: In Microsoft settings under Integrations, choose what folders to index and set privacy preferences.

Usage

Prerequisites:

  • An active VDF account and Microsoft 365 account with OneDrive for Business.
  • Recommended: Ensure you have the necessary permissions to authorize Microsoft apps for your account.

After connecting:

  • VDF can browse and search your OneDrive files to provide context in AI conversations.
  • You can select files directly from OneDrive when working on projects or tasks.
  • Initial file indexing may take time depending on your OneDrive size.

Use in VDF (examples):

  1. Ask in chat: "Find the latest project proposal in my OneDrive and summarize the key points."
  2. Ask: "Compare the budget files from Q3 and Q4 in my OneDrive."
  3. Ask: "Help me organize my OneDrive files by creating a folder structure for this project."
  4. Use the OneDrive file picker to select specific files for analysis or import.

Removing the App

There are two parts: disconnect in VDF and remove access in Microsoft.

  • Disconnect in VDF (stops processing immediately):

    1. In VDF, go to Integrations → Microsoft → OneDrive → Disconnect.
    2. This removes your active Microsoft authorization from VDF and stops file access.
  • Remove access in Microsoft (Account settings):

    1. Open your Microsoft account → Security → App permissions.
    2. Find "VDF" (or your app name) and select it.
    3. Click Remove access.

Potential implications of removal:

  • VDF will no longer be able to access your OneDrive files.
  • Existing VDF artifacts (summaries, notes) remain available until deleted per your workspace retention settings.
  • Any stored authorization tokens are revoked; future OneDrive access is blocked.

Tips

  • Start with specific folders if you have a large OneDrive to improve performance.
  • Use the file picker to select specific documents rather than giving broad access.
  • You can change your folder preferences anytime in the Microsoft integration settings.

Examples and use cases

  • File Search:
    • "Find all PDF documents in my OneDrive from last month."
    • "Locate the contract templates in my OneDrive."
  • Document Analysis:
    • "Summarize the key points from the quarterly report in my OneDrive."
    • "Compare the two project proposals in my OneDrive and highlight differences."
  • File Organization:
    • "Help me organize my OneDrive files by creating a logical folder structure."
    • "Find duplicate files in my OneDrive and suggest which ones to keep."

Troubleshooting

  • Authorization errors: Start the connection from VDF → Integrations → Microsoft → OneDrive. Ensure your Microsoft account can grant the requested permissions.
  • Not seeing files: Confirm the right Microsoft account was authorized and that you have OneDrive for Business (not just personal OneDrive).
  • File access issues: Ensure your OneDrive files are not restricted by organizational policies.
  • Slow performance: Large OneDrive libraries may take time to index. You can continue working while indexing runs in the background.

FAQ

  • Does VDF modify my OneDrive files? — No. VDF reads files for analysis and search; it does not move or edit files.
  • Can I limit which folders VDF can access? — Yes. Use integration settings to scope access to specific folders.
  • What happens to my data if I disconnect? — VDF stops accessing OneDrive. Generated artifacts in VDF remain until you delete them.
  • Do I need OneDrive for Business? — Yes, for full integration features. Personal OneDrive has limited functionality.
