Outlook Integration
What it does
- Connect Outlook so VDF can help with email, calendar, and contacts management. VDF can access your Outlook data and provide intelligent email analysis, scheduling insights, and communication management.
Adding the App
- In VDF, go to Integrations → Microsoft → Outlook → Connect.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account and grant access to VDF.
- You'll be redirected back to VDF. Select your Outlook folders and calendars.
- Confirm the connection shows "Connected" for your selected content.
Usage
Prerequisites:
- An active VDF account and Microsoft account with Outlook access.
- Recommended: Ensure you have the necessary permissions to authorize Microsoft apps and access your Outlook data.
After connecting:
- VDF can access your Outlook emails, calendar, and contacts.
- You can analyze communication patterns and get scheduling insights.
- Email management and calendar organization features become available.
Use in VDF (examples):
- Ask in chat: "Find all emails about the project deadline and summarize the key discussions."
- Ask: "Analyze my Outlook calendar and suggest improvements for time management."
- Ask: "Generate a weekly email summary with important messages and action items."
- Ask: "Help me organize my Outlook inbox by creating smart folders for different projects."
Removing the App
There are two parts: disconnect in VDF and remove access in Microsoft.
-
Disconnect in VDF (stops processing immediately):
- In VDF, go to Integrations → Microsoft → Outlook → Disconnect.
- This removes your active Microsoft authorization from VDF and stops Outlook access.
-
Remove access in Microsoft (Account settings):
- Open your Microsoft account → Security → App permissions.
- Find "VDF" (or your app name) and select it.
- Click Remove access.
Potential implications of removal:
- VDF will no longer be able to access your Outlook data.
- Existing VDF artifacts (email summaries, insights) remain available until deleted per your workspace retention settings.
- Any stored authorization tokens are revoked; future Outlook access is blocked.
Tips
- Start with specific folders if you have many Outlook items to improve performance.
- Use VDF to generate comprehensive email summaries and scheduling insights.
- You can change your folder selection anytime in the Microsoft integration settings.
